Rock Imperium 2023 - Helloween, Stratovarius, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Blind Guardian & more - Day one in Cartagena, Spain

Set in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Cartagena the Rock Imperium festival launched into day one of its music festivities. Featuring Helloween, Stratovarius, Tygers of Pan Tang, Saratoga, Rotting Christ, Evergrey, Steve ‘n’ Seagulls & others

Helloween delivered a flowing and frenetic set as the sun faded taking the day to night and the perfect setting for the German pumpkin rockers. Delivered with their usual Germanic efficiency and set full of hits it was a perfect addition to Friday night in Cartagena.

One of the highlights of the evening was the roaring set delivered by Robb Weir and his Tygers of Pan Tang where the band took no prisoners with their ecstatic hit laden set. One of the true pioneers of the early eighties and the NWOBHM scene this is a band that should’ve been as big as Def Leppard had it not been the old story of inadequate management and lax label help. They are certainly better than the Leppards ever were when it comes to hard rock stakes. The Tygers are a band that’ll leave you spellbound if your give them the time of day. Certainly one to catch again if they visit a town near you if judged by tonight’s performance.

Stratovarius are one of those bands that are perfect for festivals if you want to hear the hits but this really is a band worth catching when they deliver a full live set if you want to really appreciate the real essence of this vibrant and sometimes complex band. Delivery of their music in the Mercia evening air was as usual near perfect in delivery and the perfect ending to day one of a festival that shows much promise.
