Earthworks at The Mall Galleries

In the last three decades, contemporary landscape painter Lydia Bauman has travelled the world searching out indigenous landscapes of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Israel and the British Isles and interpreting them in her unique mixed media technique involving plaster, wax, resin, patinas, gold, silver and copper leaf as well as sand and organic matter collected on her travels. Her son, the photographer Karl Dudman, likewise travelled widely across landscapes of Canada, Iceland, Hawaii, Morocco and USA, capturing them memorably with both film and digital cameras. Their recent joint project Looking for Georgia - New Mexico in the Footsteps of Georgia O’Keeffe was exhibited at Mall Galleries in 2019.

As Lydia and Karl move on to prepare for their next ambitious project, Japan, this exhibition, charts the evolution of their respective techniques and ways of seeing in response to Earth’s beauty and diversity.
