New Ronnie James Dio biopic premieres in London
New Ronnie James Dio biopic premieres in London.
Music industry luminaries gathered last night at London’s Soho Theatre for the premiere of ‘Dreamers Never Die’ the new biopic on the life and times of Ronnie James Dio.
With illustrious guests including Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, Wendy Dio and various band members, family, music press, producers and directors in attendance it was always going to be an interesting evening.
Starting with an ‘on stage’ presentation from Wendy Dio, Ronnie’s wife and partner since the seventies the preview had a very human aspect right from the start.
Verdict: An enjoyable and entertaining journey through the life and times of the man and his bands. The early history was covered well although it was lacking with regards to Elf’s recording years, a period the could and should have been covered in more depth. Apart from reference to Elf’s first album there was scant reference to a period that is an important part of the story. Also lacking was input from the man in black, Ritchie Blackmore, although it was clear from discussions at the after-show from those in the know this was not from lack of trying but rather the lack of input from Ritchie and/or his management.
Recommendation: A film that will be of immense interest and benefit to anyone with more than a passing interest in rock and metal music. For the casual watcher/listener of rock music it should fill more than a few gaps and will be well worth the money paid to see it.
