“I love what I do. I look forward to entertaining people.  When show time gets here, I’m ready to go, ready to go play for them.  It’s a labour of love.  I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.” – Charlie Daniels, from https://www.charliedaniels.com/bio

Charlie Daniels passed away on July 6th, 2020, at the age of eighty-three, at the Summit Medical Centre in Nashville, as a result of a haemorrhagic stroke, ending a colourful and event-laden life that had mostly been spent making music. Primarily an extremely talented and versatile fiddle player, Charlie could also turn his hand to guitar, banjo and mandolin, and his talents were in high demand – notables such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Marty Robbins, Pete Seeger, Ringo Starr, Flatt & Scruggs, Hank Williams Jr, Marshall Tucker Band and many others utilised his musical skills, and he even turned producer for Elephant Mountain, the classic 1969 album by The Youngbloods.

He began a recording career under his own name in 1970, with the release of his self-titled debut album on the Capitol Records label.

This excellent radio broadcast was recorded when the Charlie Daniels Band were at an absolute commercial peak of their powers. Having successfully rode the ‘Southern Rock’ wave in the mid-seventies, which had by then petered out, his narrative hit ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia’ (which features in this set) was an international smash success, and their appetite for touring made them a solid Stateside draw. This double CD set also includes such Daniels favourites as ‘Caballo Diablo’, ‘Uneasy Rider’, ‘The South’s Gonna Do It’, and covers of such chestnuts as ‘Johnny B Goode’ and ‘Orange Blossom Special’. All in all, it’s a potent reminder of the breadth and range of Daniels’ talent—containing much fine musicianship, parlayed with style before a rabidly enthusiastic crowd.
