Tangerine Dream - New Live Recordings released on coloured vinyl

On October 16 and November 6, Invisible Hands Music are releasing two of the latest instalments in the comeback of the greatest electronic pioneers of all time, Tangerine Dream.

In their imperial years of the 1970s, concerts by West Berlin’s Tangerine Dream were an electronic exploration, improvised and different every night, with little or no relationship to their smash hit albums, which were similarly esoteric. As the 1980s dawned, their recorded work contained more recognisable themes and they scored some of the biggest films of the decade; and so their live performances became more structured.

Now, they are returning in part to those pioneering days. Every show includes a section of improvisation, different every night. The best improvisations are being released as Sessions, and Invisible Hands Music is proud to release the latest on vivid coloured double vinyl mastered at Abbey Road by Miles Showell, and on CD.

This lands in a period of renewed interest in Tangerine Dream, with founder Edgar Froese’s autobiography Force Majeure storming up the music books charts, detailing the band’s founding in 1970s West Berlin in the grip of the Cold War, hosting David Bowie in the first months of Bowie’s Berlin period, and soundtracking some of the biggest Hollywood films of the 1980s, including Risky Business starring Tom Cruise, Firestarter starring Drew Barrymore, Sorcerer by William Friedkin, and vampire classic Near Dark.

Additionally, some of Tangerine Dream’s early albums have been remixed and remastered by Steven Wilson, who has done the same for King Crimson, XTC, Yes, Marillion; and the classic albums compiled by Virgin/Universal in 2019’s rapturously received box set, In Search Of Hades.

Sessions mark the latest chapter for this unique and important band, now back at the peak of their powers. A treat for fans of electronic music.
