Kev Sherry to release new album Foxy Orthodoxy 0n 18/09/2020

KEV SHERRY

NEW ALBUM

‘FOXY ORTHODOXY’

RELEASED 18TH SEPTEMBER 2020

Kev Sherry, lead singer for the cult, critically acclaimed Scottish indie-rock four-piece Attic Lights (Island RecordsElefant Records), makes a welcome return as he releases his debut solo album Foxy Orthodoxy on 18th Sept 2020.

After enjoying great success with three highly esteemed studio albums with Attic Lights: Friday Night Lights (2008), Super De Luxe (2013) and Love In The Time Of Shark Attacks (2019), frontman Kev Sherry is now embarking on a solo career.  Kev’s songs have previously been featured on BBC’s The Culture ShowHBO’s Divorce, Netflix's EliteMTV’s Teen Mom, The One Show and many others. He has also collaborated with international artists including Bjorn Yttling, Cerys Matthews and La Casa Azul and his songs have been remixed by Mogwai, Camera Obscura, Jim Noir and The VaselinesObscuraTracyanne & Danny) and a bass guitar borrowed from Francis MacDonald (Teenage Fanclub).

Thematically Foxy Orthodoxy is reflective of the current zeitgeist and is an extension of the themes Kev explores in his written work for New Statesman and The Alternative UK - anarchism, feminism, gender politics, the ideological culture wars, the cult of personality and the hypocrisy of the human heart. These are subjects Kev also explores in his forthcoming feminist graphic novel Warpaint which is due to be published by a legendary Franco/American company in early 2021. Musically, Foxy Orthodoxy reconnects with shambolic, loose guitars, catchy melodies, bare production and raw recordings and is inspired by acts like Courtney Barnett, Alvvays, The Lemonheads, Surfer Blood and Best Coast

Singles from the album include the playfully political Feelgood Movie Of The Year (“Supremely catchy indie pop,” Vic Galloway, BBC Introducing) - a song where bold anarchic political themes speak of would-be dictators, demagogues, election interference, data manipulation and fake political saviours. The Bluff finds the singer examining the hypocrisies, hang-ups and lies of the human heart. Forthcoming single, Shoes That Make You Taller, is a study of nationalist ideologies that sow division and hatred.

This is an album where the personal is political and the political is personal. Think populists who serve themselves and their billionaire overlords rather than the public offices they represent, alternative facts, climate chaos, culture wars, demographic wars, trolling…. You know the story. It is happening everywhere around us. Covid-19 only turns the volume up on the manic disarray and fears for the future. Is this the new normal? Is this the new orthodoxy?
