Experimental electronic Finnish collective Pihka Is My Name release new single/video

Pihka Is My Name is a Helsinki-based collective whose art combines epic electronic music and emotion-provoking animation. The front figure is an abandoned imaginary friend called Pihka who sets off on an adventure on her own, meets with people and finds out that climate change is one of the most pressing problems we are facing right now.

The single and video are about Pihka discovering the beauty of northern nature and winter. A snow-covered forest might be a very exotic sight in the near future. It is time to face the facts - humans are changing this planet’s climate. Will they do something about it?

Musically it builds on top of the usual Pihka Is My Name recipe - analogue electronics, sweet atmospheric vocals and epic orchestrations and relates to the music of the likes of Röyksopp, Four Tet, Sufjan Stevens, Empire of the Sun and even Hans Zimmer.

It’s written and produced by Lasse Turunen and Henna Helasvuo, who also work as producers under the PihkaSound name and have composed music for Finnish TV. Turunen is also known as the vocalist for energetic pop group Ukkosmaine (on hiatus since 2016) and Helasvuo is known for her classical and theatre compositions.

The character concept design and the +- video is directed by animation artist Elli Maanpää.
