Stereophonics - Live at BST Hyde Park
As another hot summer day in London hits, the attendance to Hyde Park keeps hotting up. Another weekend and another festival in the capital, this time we have the Welsh rockers in the house, Stereophonics supporting the mighty Pearl Jam but this is no basic entree course, these guys have been doing this for ages and they keep getting better. They kick off with “C’est la vie” and “I wanna get lost with you” and immediately we are off to stomper. It really makes you realise that they have perfected the blend of rock and pop so either genre feels catered for. “The Bartender and the Thief” sounds fresh and as poignant as ever, here Kelly Jones reminded the world that he is a class act songwriter.
Although they are a very respected band I always wondered why this band never made the jump to superstardom, they have the songs, the music, the lyrics, the looks, etc. its a weird one this one. But rest assured that here we have one of the best UK bands post Britpop, with classic tracks like “ Maybe Tomorrow” and “Have a Nice Day” in the middle of the set allow the crow to remember that they are in the presence of a great band.
Mr. Jones’ voice is a on point as always, never faltering and delivering the goods every single time and tracks like “Fly Like an Eagle” showcase just that, simply brilliant. Perfect for this hot summers day.
And as the audience is grooving to the setlist we get to “Just Looking” with the crowd singing the words back to the Oak stage, prepping the stage for “Dakota”. We all want more but the show must go on and the Pearl Jam fans are getting restless. Excellent band, excellent choice for this night. We all want Pearl Jam but we also want more Stereophonics.
