Limp Bizkit live at London's Gunnersbury Park

Sunday evening in South West London, a little bit of rain but the crowd is in a good mood. Limp Bizkit is in the house, a little unfamiliar venue for this reviewer but appropriate nonetheless, a good sized stage (think Download Festival second stage but with smaller video screens) a perfect sized arena for the band. They don’t pretend to be bigger than they are, they have the tunes, the energy and the charisma, its not 2001 so they get on with it and they do it in style.

They open with their trademark intro and off we go to ‘Show me what you got’ a quick fire ‘9 Teen 90 nine’ and ‘Hot Dog’ and just like that…. Bang! it feels like time have stand still and Nu Metal is still king. Fred Durst delivers every time and the crowd let him know that they are in for the ride, classics like ‘My Generation’ and ‘Rollin’ (air raid vehicle)’ sound as fresh and relevant like they did back in the early noughties.

DJ Lethal keeps the breaks going but it’s the killer guitar parts of Wes Borland that remind the crowd that this is not only for hoppers it is for rockers and the rest. They really mix up a little bit of this with a little bit of that to create the perfect Limp Bizkit blend, outstanding.

They blast through ‘My Way’ ‘Take a look around’ and the perennial ‘Nookie’ to shake the ground to the core, they also deliver a breather with ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ to take us on a rough final trip with the George Michael cover ‘Faith’ and the always magnificent ‘Break Stuff’. This is not 2001 Nu Metal, it feels like 2023 Metal. Go check them out if you can as they are still at the top of their game.
