Hellfest 2024 | Day 1

The opening day is here and as there is a lot to choose from we decided to stay close to Mainstages. As we walked in the arena the guys from Slaughter to Prevail were about to attempt the biggest wall of death ever and although it’s not quite clear if they managed the feat, the actual wall was pretty impressive, that plus their brand of metal was the perfect welcome. Great show, excellent tunes. Ice Nine Kills followed and their theatrics played to a very eager crowd. Lots of props and timed choreography deliver a bloody good sunny afternoon kinda vibe, a little niche but somehow works. Alice Cooper probably approves…

Veteran Kerry King brings his new band to France blasting proper amplifiers and shock horror, volume on stage leaving the quiet stage trend thing to others. The band is on form and the new material blends perfectly with Mr. King’s previous sound, the cover of Reign in Blood sound like it was played by Slayer.. how peculiar, excellent nevertheless.

Megadeth follows and they deliver a great set full of recent tracks as well as classics and it is here where the riff master delivers the goods, a very humble and grateful Dave Mustaine addresses and thanks the crowd. He is emotional and so are we, great to see them in a big stage and in a great slot, thanks Dave. The plan was for Bad Omens to come and play but due to unforeseen circumstances they had to drop out but here comes Landmvrks. And what a surprise this was.. a little bit of Linkin Park, with a sprinkle of Eminem and MGK and we get this most excellent French band, delivering track after track of heavy emotional metal. The best of the night at this point, they really deserve the main support slot and that is all, go check them out asap. You’re welcome.

And finally the main act, Avenged Sevenfold. After a very unexpected opening the band slowly pick up the pace and in no time they had the crowd jumping and singing, well worthy of the headliner title, they deliver classic and new tracks with aplomb. The crowd lose they minds with Hail to the King and Nightmare as expected but what a show and what a first night back in Clisson. More? Yes please, 3 days more
