Art Alexakis (Everclear) - shines a light on 'Sun Songs'

Thirty years on from the covers-laden 'Tragic Songs of Life' by his proto-Cowpunk band 'The Easy Hoes', the Everclear main-man has finally released his first bonafide solo album 'Sun Songs'.

Andy Rawll met Art in advance of his recent London solo 'songs and stories' show to find out more about the impetus and inspiration for this long-awaited release, as well as plans to reconvene Everclear in 2020.

As the primary creative force behind Everclear throughout their 25 plus year career, Alexakis's turbulent life story has inspired personal and provocative lyrics, with the 1995 breakthrough album 'Sparkle and Fade' infused with contrasting themes of toxicity and romance, with 'Heroin Girl' and 'Strawberry' recalling the dark days of addiction. Indeed, the Grammy-nominated sequel 'So Much for the Afterglow' delved even deeper with "Father of Mine" and "Why I Don't Believe in God" revealing the trauma of troubled youth.

Musician, businessman, political activist, actor...Alexakis's creativity and passion continue to permeate everything he does. Revealing a renewed sense of optimism and restored strength, in the face of debilitating illness, his solo shows are compellingly personal, musically rich and thoroughly recommended.

This is perfectly illustrated by two of the preview tracks from the album, from the heartfelt ode to his wife in Sunshine Love Song to The Hot Water Test that references his management of MS, the condition that has impacted his life for well over ten years.
